Daily Bread Sept. 19, 2017
Psalms 30:11-12 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, (12) that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to you forever!
These were the last verses of the 4th Psalm of David I read this morning. Sometimes, the LORD leads me thru several pages of His Word before He points out my daily bread …. Most times it hits me within a verse or 2! I have always thought David to be a valiant warrior, a very Godly man. Therefore, in my mind’s eye, he is strong, faithful and trustworthy …. Everybody loves him. After reading these 4 Psalms, I find that David was just a man .. he had troubles like any other man ….he struggled with doubt, fear, anxiety – he even struggled to trust His God. I think we set these Biblical characters on pedestals they never asked for. Sure, we find them in the faith chapter in the book of Hebrews – and they should be there as examples to us … but they were no more or less human than you and I.
At the end of each the 4 Psalms, David gives praise – praise to the One who restored him – praise to the One who rescued him – praise to the One who overcame for him. I was reminded of what God IS doing among His people. Not what He can do, but what He is doing! We wait for the LORD to do something – HE IS DOING IT NOW.
Right now, He is restoring His people. Right now, He is rescuing. Right now, He is overcoming. Right now, He is turning mourning into dancing – He is loosening the sackcloth and clothing with gladness ---- the question is --- are His people singing His praise or are they silent? For David, when he realized what the LORD was doing – he cried out, “O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever!”
