Daily Bread Oct. 25, 2017
Matthew 22:29 But Jesus answered them, "You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God."
Again we find the religious leaders of the day testing Jesus. Jesus contradicted just about everything these folks stood for and did. That made them angry. Jesus confronted their lifestyle, their religious philosophy and he flat out told them they had no clue when it came to God’s Word or His power. Simply stated, Jesus said they were frauds! They self-identified as Godly people when in reality they were sons of the devil (John 8:44).
As we grow closer to the time this Sunday (Oct. 29, 2017) when we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper, AND, we know the Bible commands that we examine ourselves (1 Cor. 11:28), let’s spend much time reflecting on who we say we are and if our LORD would agree. Do we know what the Scriptures teach when it comes to the character of true follower of Christ, or we even concerned about the matter? Does what we say we believe line up with the Scriptures or with the traditions of man? Are we even going to take the time to figure that out? Are we more apt to say, “What difference does it make” or, “LORD, change me, change my heart to be like yours”? Do we even have a hunger for the Scriptures? Are they merely good words from a good book?
It would not be a “good thing” (said in my best Martha Stewart voice) for anyone to come into the house of God this Sunday and be unprepared to take the Lord’s Supper. I truly believe the LORD has provided us an opportunity to experience Him in a powerful way, that power can be manifested in great grace & mercy, it can be seen through wonderful miracles, and it can be seen through His great judgment on man that has rejected His leading, His Word and His Spirit.
Pray with me that FBCO would NEVER hear the LORD speak these Words to us: 1 Corinthians 11:17 But in the following instructions I do not commend you, because when you come together it is not for the better but for the worse.
Cry out to the God of mercy, that His grace may be poured out on His people and that we would experience His abiding presence this Sunday….. and all days.
