Micah 4:1-2 It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and it shall be lifted up above the hills; and peoples shall flow to it, (2) and many nations shall come, and say: "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths." For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
Micah is speaking of the day of Christ, when He establishes His church. We find that in Acts 2, when peoples from many nations came into fellowship with Christ thru the Holy Spirit of God. We see as the book of Acts continues that the Gospel is taken to many other people groups. The books of Acts gives us one of the most known verses in all of Scripture --- Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
I love that verse! It holds one of, if not the greatest promise to every believer --- His power will lead, guide, protect and empower, as we go IN HIM. This verse holds so much truth. For example, it tells us what believer will be doing as he/she goes about his/her time on this earth – being a witness. At the same time, this verse delineates a true believer from that of a fraud. Many in this world identify as a follower of Christ. This verse actually identifies the believer – it is one who is being a witness for Christ wherever they happen to be going. They don’t set out on a mission trip in order to be a witness, they witness because each moment of their life is a mission trip.
This verse also provides hope. The promise that the LORD Jesus Christ has a desire to use a wretch like me. When Micah spoke to the people of Jerusalem, they were an adulterous nation. Idolatry had even infected the temple of Jehovah. God promised that He would come a tread on their high places and temples of idolatry. He called for repentance from ALL peoples – from the common man to the high priests! If you were to read the first 3 chapters, you might feel as though there is little to no hope for the people of Jerusalem. Yet, by the grace and mercy of God alone, He provides a way for His people to be restored. Not just restored, but useful for His glory! Not just to be comforted, but to share His comfort with others, that they too may be comforted. That’s the glorious joy of the Church for today – to share His gospel of grace and mercy to all with whom we come into contact. The God who has pulled us from darkness has now called us to be light that those in darkness may see the Light and come unto Him.
Look at the people you come into contact with today .. what would it be like to see them this Sunday, sitting with you in the pew being taught His ways, being led on His path by Jesus Himself? I think it would be an awesome sight! So, go, and as you go, make disciples, teaching them all the He has taught you …..
