Faith & Potatoes?

Baked Potato Bar to Help Build New Clinic Space in Jamaica

Can you eat $13,000 worth of potatoes? (We'll hope not, as at $.70/lb. that's about nine tons of Idaho goodness!)

But what if you add all the fixin's --- "almost every topping you can imagine" --- and even "including items for our 'Made to Crave' Bible Study Group" --- most places would charge a lot more than 70 cents/pound for that, right?

And what if all the money you spent on your baked tubery-tater goodness went out in the field with the testimony of Christ's love and healing mercy?

Does your clinic have a front porch?

Would that inspire you to open your mouth ... and your pocketbook?  Next Sunday, March 22nd, you'll have a chance to do just that as we meet together following morning worship for a Baked Potato Bar and charity dessert auction to follow, with all proceeds going to Jamaica with an FBCO-sponsored mission trip that will not only do medical work in Jesus' name, but also repair and extend the existing medical clinic in Falmouth.

Medical Clinic in Falmouth Jamaica

"This will be my 5th year to go Falmouth, Jamaica --- an amazing little town where our medical clinic is located," says Melissa Reese, RPhT.  "We see several patients a day in this clinic and send a medical team to several outlying inland villages. This year is a little different: we will.send a small team out, but our clinic is in some need of some help. We need to add a small room for the nurses to do intake/triage, and repaint everything inside."

The roof is also needing repair, and that's where $13,000 comes in.  "I'm not sure we can raise that much", says Brenda King.  It would definitely be a miracle to make that much with a potato bar and dessert auction (although, rumor has it, some of "Margaret's Famous Pie" may well show up at the auction and command a large price).

"Almost all building supplies come to Jamaica by ship, and are priced very high," says Melissa.  But, every bit of the money raised from the baked potato bar will go directly to the purchase of building materials.  And miracles still happen at FBCO!  Be there next Sunday, fellowship with us, have a great lunch and let's see just how much we can send with our mission team!

An estimated start time would be 12:30 pm, more or less, but you should be in church anyway and then you'll know exactly when we're ready to start!  If you have baked goods you wish to contribute for the auction, or if you can't make it and wish to make a contribution anyway, please contact Melissa Reese or the church office at 417-673-4784.
