Daily Bread Oct. 24, 2017
Matthew 22:1-5 And again Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying, (2) "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son, (3) and sent his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come. (4) Again he sent other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are invited, "See, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast."' (5) But they paid no attention and went off, one to his farm, another to his business,
FBCO is preparing to celebrate the Lord’s Supper, this Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017 at 11:00am. If you have been reading the preceding posts you know that we are one-half way thru a 2 week preparation period. All too often the Lord’s Supper is taken with little to no personal preparation. The Bible tells us (actually written in command form) that we must self-examine ---- this is not a moment of personal reflection, it is a period of time when a person comes before the LORD, seeking Him, seeking His instruction, seeking a cleansing & forgiveness of confessed sin. It is a time of meditation before the LORD.
As we read today’s scripture we see a horribly sad situation – a feast has been prepared, but there is no one ready to receive it. They don’t see the importance, the necessity of the feast. There were plenty other more important activities they wanted to participate in. When we don’t see an event or activity as important, we will choose not to attend said activity. We do this EVERYDAY. I don’t see Chiefs football as an event I would like, so I choose not to watch or waste my money going to a game. Many of you don’t see KU basketball as something of importance, therefore you choose not to watch or even pay attention to the game. Some of you don’t even see sports as entertaining let alone important – that is all fine – we all have our opinions on what is and is not important --- THAT’S THE POINT! We choose to participate in the things we see as important.
Please pray with me that FBCO will see the feast set before us – and we will be prepared to take it ALL in!
