John 9:4 We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.
There will be a time when the work of Christ is no longer available – when death has occurred. There is no other Name by which a man must be saved, the Name of Jesus. There is no other time but now to be saved. Sadly, many think their time will not draw nigh anytime soon. Sadly, man thinks he has time, when in reality, time is short.
Jesus makes it clear in this verse that His disciples have work to do – ministry, missions, evangelism, discipleship…. The harvest field is ready, the workers sadly, are not. Jesus’ response is to the issue of who sinned to cause a man to be born blind – the sin is not the issue – the glory of God is the issue! Sin is sin – sin leads to death and destruction – all sin, not some sin. Therefore, to spend time, energy and resources debating sin is useless, the glory of the Father is what needs to be shared, discussed, proclaimed!
Before Jesus went to be with His Father in Heaven, He looked at His disciples and commissioned them – “As you go, make disciples … teach them all that I have taught you, lead them like I lead you, baptize them…. When the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power and you will be my witnesses.” It is now, “we must work the works of Him who has sent us….” --- Praise God we have the day in which to work – the night is coming, but while it is day --- let’s work!
