Daily Bread Nov. 13, 2017
John 9:8-9 The neighbors and those who had seen him before as a beggar were saying, "Is this not the man who used to sit and beg?" (9) Some said, "It is he." Others said, "No, but he is like him." He kept saying, "I am the man."
Have you ever witnessed something so unreal, so out of this world, that you just had a hard time believing it to be true? IT’s right in front of your eyes, but … can it be real?
That’s what is happening in this account – Jesus had given sight to a man who was born blind. Everybody knew this man to be a beggar – they knew his spot at the gate, they knew his clothes, the words he cried out --- he was the man born blind who sat at the gate and begged – that’s who he WAS! He could not be a man with sight – a man walking around freely – with no one to lead him --- yet he IS that man!
I had the opportunity to pray with a mother and father yesterday – their daughter is struggling with great spiritual darkness. They said she is not their daughter, she has become something / someone else. “It’s too difficult to believe – but, we see it with our own eyes.” I think the struggles of life can be so difficult, that it is hard to believe they are real – yet, they truly are. I know that just as the LORD gave sight to this man, He too can bring this daughter back from the spiritual darkness that has blinded her to the Truth – no doubt in my mind He can, the trouble is, will He? Will she cry out to Him? Will her family/friends drag her to the house where the LORD is, climb up on the roof, dig thru that roof and lower her to the feet of Jesus? When the LORD presents Himself to her, will she humble herself before Him, or will she willfully reject Him? There are many questions that can distract and discourage us from the one truth that will bring us His peace – In all things, He has overcome the world. That means, no matter what happens, His great plan, is being worked out for His glory, and to those that love God, to those whom He has called for His purpose, all things are working together for good. His grace is fully sufficient for any and all circumstances. So, we leave the questions in His hands and stand on His truth. We keep repeating His truth, His promise. We keep proclaiming His truth – Like the blind man who now sees – we keep telling people what the LORD has done!
